Diva by Annie Lennox
Maria Callas is an intriguing opera star. The book presents her as focused on her work but not as a cuddly person, perhaps because of a tough childhood with an unloving mother in WWII Greece. Although she doesn’t love her husband, she does fall madly in love with Aristotle Onassis, who unfortunately seems to like women as acquisitions to be conquered. Although the writing is simplistic and I wonder about figures really speaking the words in the book and really having the sex as described, show more Diva has satisfied a need to know about Maria and about opera. show less
Like Neko Case, Annie Lennox is an excellent singer that I don't somehow like even though I like many of her songs. On this album, the good ones, to my taste, are Dark Road, Love Is Blind, Ghost In My Machine, Womankind, Through the Glass Darkly, and Coloured Bedspread.
