Communication Between Cultures (with InfoTrac) (Wadsworth Series in Speech Communication) by Larry A. Samovar
Unless this is the required text for a class steer clear of it. It is very poorly written. The author doesn't seem to actually say anything himself. He mostly quotes others and then comments on those quotes. The author introduces quotes very poorly and is really reaching for unique ways to "So and so says, ..." Examples are "So and so opines that..." or "So and so tells us that..." and the worst of all: "So and so is right in saying that..."
If you want to know about intercultural show more communication you can probably just look up the books in his bibliography and go from there. I'd give it zero stars if I could. show less

Elementary Functional Japanese: Intercultural Communication = Shokyū Jissen Nihongo by Larry A. Samovar
Used this book in college! Wasn't a bad starting point. Really curious about how the other two volumes read, but the second volume is over $400 when looking for it! Guess it'll remain a mystery to me.
By the way, yes, the characters look pretty much the same as the ones in Genki.
