I love this series of graphic biographies by Rob Shone !!! Tired of the same story lines, table of content, and glossary when reading biographies? Well Rob Shone showcase the life and legacy of Ali in this comic book style story. Read this story with emotion as you view the wonderful detailed illustrations done by Nick Spender. You will not get bored with this book.
Rob Shone's Harriet Tubman: The Life of an African American Abolitionist amazed me with its fun and easy to read format and wonderful captions. I like how the author portrayed Harriet Tubman as a heroic, self-sacrificing, brave and selfless figure helping anyone in trouble, whether it was other slaves, wounded Civil War soldiers or the homeless poor. During the American Civil War, she served as a soldier, a spy and a nurse. "From 1850-1860, Harriet Tubman led about 13 daring escape missions. show more She freed about 70 slaves, including her parents, and helped many more. The routes she used took the runaways north from Maryland on the Underground Railroad to Pennsylvania. Later, Harriet took them over the border into Canada." I recommend this book to teachers who want their class to infer the pictures in this book. show less
Another appealing entry in the Graphic Discoveries series, this graphic novel explores different archaeological finds. The beginning pages provide information about archaeological digs - how scientists and amateurs find sites and how they excavate them to find ancient objects. The graphic novel stories show the Trojan Horse (and the mistaken finding of the site of Troy), Tutankhamen's tomb, and the Terracotta Warriors in China. The book ends with a map showing other important archaeological show more finds.

This one will appeal to young treasure hunters and history buffs. The graphic novel style depicts each archaeological find in an accessible way and will inspire interested readers to search out more on the subjects. A short bibliography and even shorter list of web links may or may not point them in the right direction.

This is a highly accessible depiction of Chinese mythology and the three primary religions that shaped these myths.

This will be an excellent resource to provide background information to a unit on Chinese and Chinese-American authors in a Middle or High school English class. History classes may also use this as alternative text to relay the background to studying China.
