These were only excerpts, mostly interpreted (for teenagers) before the actual reading. Good introduction to historical document reading. 134 pages
After perusing this book, it seems to be a decent read for students to learn about George Washington and read personal excerpts from his own eyes. There are some pictures located throughout the book (for example: Washington and his troops at Valley Forge, Martha, etc.) Through chapters, the book outlines his life from his days as a young officer to his death. The book highlights important dates throughout Washington's life and thereafter. It also provides a bibliography as well as other show more resources and picture credits. An index is also provided. show less
Focusing on a specific theme every month and accepting articles from a variety of writers, "Cobblestone" covers all eras of American history, often in the same magazine as it follows one idea or innovation through history, such as photography or little-known events with huge historical impacts. Each issue includes the Cartoon Connection, featuring several characters who explain the subject to readers again. In addition to the Cartoon Connection, teach issue contains a "Mystery Hero," a show more resource section, student submissions, at least one map, and a variety of did-you-know fast facts scattered throughout the magazine. Printed on high-quality glossy paper that will not fall apart the first time it is shoved into a backpack and filled with illustrations, photographs, and other attention-grabbers, "Cobblestone" is well worth the approximately seven dollars per issue, or about thirty-five dollars for the nine issues included in a year's subscription, especially since the only advertisement is a single page suggesting other magazines from the same publisher. Recommended for school libraries. Ages 9-12. show less
