David Ben-Gurion was one of the founding fathers of the modern State of Israel and its first Prime Minister. His lifelong passion for a homeland for the Jewish people began early in life and sustained him through decades of progroms, war, and struggles between political factions. After leading Israel to victory in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, he helped oversee the immigration of large numbers of Jews from around the world.
