Facing the Dark tells the story of Simon Lomond, whose father has been recently imprisoned for murder, and Charlotte Westcot, the victim of that murder. Simon works to prove his father's innocence and along the way builds an unlikely friendship and alliance with Charlotte.
Facing the Dark tells an exciting story, as the two work together to solve a murder. The story also conveys the ideas of parental loss and loss of innocence as the two young protagonist begin to question which adults they show more can and cannot trust as well as the horrors of ruthless business practices. show less

I enjoyed this book for many reasons. The main purpose of this book is to teach students about some of the things that happen in each month. The book goes through each month and has a couple poems on each. The poems tend to either be by famous poets, about a funny subject or informational. By having different authors within the collection, the editor created a lot of variety and change throughout the book. This was very beneficial when reading the book. Having the different styles and poets show more gave the book a lot of variety. In addition to having interesting poems, the vast illustrations throughout the book also differed. Each illustration felt like its own work of art as opposed to being just another picture on the next page. show less
A beautifully illustrated book of poetry for children, ranging from nursery rhymes and limericks, through traditional favourites like A.A. Milne, Edward Lear, and Christina Rossetti, to the writers of today.
This book contains a collection of poems that have to do with Christmas, alongside charming illustrations. Some of the poems are about Christ's birth and others are about Christmas festivities.
