There is no substitute for reading Marx himself; not just my opinion, but that of David Smith. So, this is not instead of reading Capital, it is a precursor. Marx was writing almost 150 years ago, his style, the ambiance have changed greatly, although, not the underlying truth of Marx's economic theories.

This book is an EXCELLENT introduction to a series of books which take some understanding and, if one is not careful, one may miss crucial points. A MUST read for anyone interested in show more obtaining a comprehension of Marx. show less

Enjoyable, accessible overview of Marx and this critique of capitalism. If you aren't excited about plowing through the volumes of Marx's Das Kapital, the more important lessons can be gleaned here.
