This book reminds me a lot of March of the Penguins or Happy Feet. The story seems to have a faint hint of environmentalism without beating you over the head with it. The fact that the penguin father in the story comes back just in time with a fishing net clinging to his neck let's every reader ponder the fact that the human intrusion was what almost cost Fin and his young son, Solo, their lives. It's beautifully illustrated, really beautifully. The paintings alone are enough to draw in many show more readers. The story was simple and sparing, just right for a good narrative without being too long and drawn out. A good read on the whole, even if the whole baby penguin in the harsh winter angle has being seeing a lot of action lately. show less
Jasmina plays at being a hunter in the African bush, pretending to shoot the mighty elephant. But during her games Jasmina discovers a crying little elephant on his dead mother's side, and realizes the horrors of hunting.
I felt bad for Slobcat! There he was, going around being all heroic, and his family didn't even appreciate him. The illustrations of Slobcat are beautiful - he's so soft and cuddly looking, you almost want to stroke the page of the book. It's a good title for a cat-themed storytime because the audience is in on the joke - they know that Slobcat is really an awesome cat and not just lazy...
A dinosaur thinks it has problems on the occasion of a volcanic eruption and subsequent forest fire.Wait for the meteor to impact - then you'll know trouble, sunshine.
