A favourite! Illuminations from the big masters of gothic Europe, with close ups on the details. Almost as good as looking at the real manuscripts (unless you want to study the quality of the actual medieval colour pigments). Francois Avril is one BIG NAME in illumination research. A must have for calligraphers and scrollmakers.
Over half the book is illustrations and lets you see correlations in different manuscripts of this style. Text looks to be well written and informative. I'll know more as I read it.
