Remarkable and mystical things sometimes happen to people during sports. These astounding occurrences are rarely reported in the sports pages. show more Combing 6,500 sources for stories from both professional and amateur athletes, Michael Murphy and Rhea A. White explore this hidden dimension of sports, recounting moments of illumination and ecstasy, out-of-body experences, altered perceptions of time and space, and exceptional feats of strength and endurance spanning almost the entire spectrum of sports and physical adventure, including football, basketball, tennis, sailing, mountain climbing, parachuting, and running.

The authors also draw striking parallels between these uncanny experiences and those of mystics and yogis to show how the religious heritages of both East and West provide a basis for understanding spiritual experiences arrived at through physical activity. Proof that you can never go back. I read this over twenty years ago, and thought it was brilliant, "it changed my life", etc. This time round, I found it trite and badly written. Ah well, I guess reading has as much to do with the reader as with the book.
Mind body Transformation Encyclopedia.“The Future of the Body” (Explorations into the Further Evolution of Human Nature) by Michael Murphy. It is an impressive collection of tendencies and phenomena in every aspect of human nature: physiology, psychology, parapsychology, philosophy and other fields. By paging this work one comes across with titles like: Pain and Pleasure, Extraordinary Communication abilities, Eye Coordination and Dexterity, The Charismas of Catholic Saints and Mystics show more …– possible and impossible directions in the evolution of the human race show less
A magical tale of the author's experiences with Shivas Irons. Highly recommended.
