Zachariah Coop, a professional gambler, is fleeing an angry posse which wishes to catch him and hang him. He stumbles on Holly and Jason, two young children who have been abandoned by the hired man assigned to take them to land they have inherited in Oregon. The children lend Coop some assistance in avoiding the posse which means he decides to help them get over the Rocky Mountains to Oregon.

The plot includes many narrow escapes from buffalo hunters, wild animals, wild rapids, winter storms show more and more. This is a quick light read. Turned into a 1976 film. show less
