About the Author

Born and bred in Maine, John Gould (1908-2003) was well known for his acerbic Yankee wit. Over the course of his life he wrote dozens of books, and for an astounding sixty-two years he was a regular columnist for the Christian Science Monitor. Despite his literary fame, he steadfastly claimed that show more he was first, last, and always, a farmer. show less

Quiet, deadpan humor easily lost on those from away. A good old yarn followed by "copious and scholarly" notes by the teller.

Dispatches from Maine, 1942-1992 by John Gould
Essays from Maine, a weekly newspaper editorial, stories of farm life. Some funny stories.
Interesting articles on snowstorms, Christmas, gardening, maple sugaring, lobstering all of which I'm interested in.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
