I should probably start out with a disclaimer that I was sent this book and asked to review it. I kind of hate to do that because I fear it may taint my praise for this fantastic look at American business.
There are waaaaaaay too many business books published each year. Many of them all say the same thing. They want to outline "their way" to success. But this one is different. It paints an honest picture of the ups and downs of running a business in today's world, where we learn from show more Silverman's mistakes (and some good moves along the way).
Basically, Silverman grew a small typesetting business into a global leader in the publishing industry... and then lost it all.
The author does a great job of connecting all of the little people and day-to-day details so that it's apparent how they add up to the big picture.
I learned a lot.
What was the most fun was I learned a lot while reading about typography, books and some of the biggest names in publishing over the past 2 decades. show less
