Author/artist Laura Ljungkvist instructs the reader to follow her line, leading them on a journey through the city traffic, across the ocean, under the sea, up into the sky, into the forest, through a small village, and toward a small house where many people are sleeping. On each two-page spread, the reader is further instructed to look for and count various objects and animals...

The first of four picture-books in this vein, in which Ljungkvist uses her continuous line to create her show more illustrations, and to lead the reader on a "search and find" journey, Follow the Line works quite well as a counting book, and will provide young children who enjoy this sort of thing with quite a bit of enjoyment. These sorts of books aren't my personal favorite, when it comes to picture-books - I tend to get bored with the "hunt for the image" titles - but there's no doubt that Ljungkvist has produced an engaging example of the type. Recommended to young children who enjoys books like Where's Waldo. show less
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the simple line-segment illustrations. I liked that they used photography and computer drawings to piece the design together. It was fun to find all of the different texts that were spread across the pages and then to try to find all the items they were asking us to look for. My daughter loved looking for everything, and the simple drawings on the cluttered pages made it easier for her to spot things.
I loved this story. It was definitely a twist to the classic Snow White story. I loved the beautiful art and illustrations. I would use this book in a discussion about different fairy tales around the world.
Author/illustrator Laura Ljungkvist creates an entertaining, interactive picture-book with Search and Spot: Animals!, one which will keep young children poring over the page for quite some time. On each two-page spread, the reader is given various animals to hunt down, with a surprise search and spot at the end that will send them back through the pages of the book, on one last mission...

One of two such 'search and spot' books produced by Ljungkvist - the other being Search and Spot: Go!, show more which features various vehicles - Search and Spot: Animals! is a worthy addition to the body of titles, from the "Where's Waldo" books to Barroux's Where's the Elephant and Starfish, Where Are You?, that provide readers with a "look and find" adventure. Recommended to young animal lovers, and to anyone in the market for such interactive picture-books. show less
