Another masterpiece from Chan-wook Park that sees Guem-Ja Lee (Yeong-ae Lee) being released from prison after serving a 13 year sentence for a crime she didn't commit. With the assistance of fellow inmates she sets about planning a meticulous vengeance on the man who really committed the crime. Like the other two films in Chan-wook Park's "vengeance trilogy" this is a highly intelligent and beautifully photographed film. The acting is exceptional and the score beautiful and moving. " Lady show more Vengeance" is operatic, poetic and thoughtful but is also bleak, cryptic and shocking - a superb film. show less
South Korean vengeance masterpiece "Oldeuboi" delivers intricate, complicated plotting; kinetic, repulsive violence and a shocking unforgettable ending. Beautiful (if that's the word) direction by Chan-wook Park, powerful cinematography by Chung-hoon Chung and masterful leading performance by Min-sik Choi make the film a visceral masterpiece and a totally unforgettable experience.
A man is mysteriously imprisoned for 15 years, then set free.
I have to admit it's a good movie. But it's also horrible, in that Oh My God Why Did They Put This In A Movie Make It Stop sort of way.

A kidnapping gone wrong leads to violence.
Very slow. Interesting, but no fun. Basically a series of unpleasant things are happening around a pair of unsympathetic characters. It's not a bad story, but it's far too miserable and joyless for me.
