The mindful leader : awakening your natural management skills through mindfulness meditation by Michael Carroll
Don't let the fact that this book is about meditation and uses Buddhist concepts keep you from reading it. It is a wonderful book about using awareness of your own actions and mindset to work better with others. Being present and authentic in your actions and communications makes you a true leader.
The ten tenets that Carroll speaks of are: Simplicity, Poise, Respect, Courage, Confidence, Enthusiasm, Patience, Awareness, Skillfulness, and Humility. Concepts that cross any moral or spiritual show more path.
Meditation is one of the tools described in the book. This tried and true technique has been the subject of many recent scientific studies and is finding its way into many avenues of therapies, both physical and mental, as well as businesses. It is losing its stigma as a religious practice and is being recognized for the benefits it reaps in this society of multi-tasking.
This book focuses on leadership at work or any other organization. Topics include reducing the stress and anxiety that create 'toxic workplaces' and leading with wisdom and gentleness rather than ambition and power. You not only become a more authentic leader, but also discover and maintain the joy in what you do. show less
