Cannibalism, gore, impalement, slicing gone crazy. Now that Johnny Ryan has published his fourth book (out of a projected six), it's clear that his power for appalling, sickening and bloodthirsty development continues unabatted. Yet his genial inventiveness, detailed generative construction and humour have also not diminished a bit. From one episode to the next, from one panel to the following, the reader/spectator is put through the paces of a horrid adventure in a grotesque world of show more revolting situations and nauseous monsters. An incredible feat of drawing skill and imagination on its way to become a cult reference of the genre. show less
Johnny Ryan's Comic Book Holocaust is a gloriously filthy ride through the world of comics. The range of Ryan's satiric targets is impressive - everything from David B's Epileptic to Doonesbury and Batman are given the full treatment of surrealistic toilet humor that is Ryan's trademark. Not all the attacks succeed; there are more than a few gags in this collection that fall flat on their faces. One gets the impression that Ryan's brand of humor works best when he is parodying comics that he show more really loves, as when his Chris Ware pastiche wallows in the beautifully disgusting phenomenon of the "Rusty Trombone". Sick? Yes. Offensive? Yes. Thoroughly entertaining? You bet! Just make sure to leave your sense of good taste at the door... show less
Co za chory szajs. Uwielbiam, choć nie polecam czytać tuż przed lub po posiłku
Don't make the mistake of reading this book while eating your breakfast. Featuring over the top violence, tons of blood and, ahem, bodily functions, Prison Pit : Book Two is not for the faint hearted. Though somewhat upsetting, all the violence and gore is offset by the finely drawn black and white illustrations and vile looking characters that really embody the evil they deal out. Despite the unrelenting horror, there are small glimpses of humour and beauty, and as an added bonus, the cover show more is silver. show less
