Fantasy: The Literature of Subversion (New Accents) by Rosemary Jackson

Not surprisingly, this book by Jackson is just what one needs when in doubt about the fantastic fiction. This book was a big reference source for my primary studies and contains a large selection of topics within the fantasy genre.
