My reading group decided to read the book and then watch the film to compare and contrast. I enjoyed both and although in many ways the film follows the book plot line, it deviates in significant ways too. The film changes the whole thrust of the book by making it a romance which I can understand - I don't think many people would watch a film where the thread of the book was actually followed.
