2674 The Short Oxford History of English Literature, by Andrew Sanders (read 12 Nov 1994) This is a new reference work, but I read it straight through. The early part--up to about 1700--was tough going, but I enjoyed a lot of the parts that deal with what I know. The very recent spends time on iconoclastic writers which repel me. But there is much discussion of authors I have read or want to read. Reading this suggested much I have not but want to read. A really excellent book, and I am glad show more I read it cover-to-cover. show less
