Let's be honest. There is no such thing as squirrel 'proofing'. There's only attempting to beat off the creatures from the feeders enough so that birds can scarf up the goods as well.
Also, the book is highly misleading about Eastern Grey Squirrel populations versus Western Grey Squirrel populations. Western Grey Squirrels are actually a threatened species in Washington State, and have been extirpated in some areas of California. The native Western Grey has been muscled out of its range by show more both the introduced Eastern Grey Squirrel and Eastern Fox Squirrel.
Although I have often wandered through habitat which should contain Western Grey Squirrels, I have yet to see one in over twenty years of looking.
Other than that, the book does go into the various members of the squirrel tribe (marmots, ground squirrels, prairie dogs, tree squirrels, etc.) and give a little background information of them. show less

With dozens of recipes and a wealth of sound, practical advice to attract birds, this is a handy little addition to any backyard birder's library. Also includes tips on bird feeders, food preferences of specific species, nutritional information, and how to feed orphan birds.
Comprehensive, readable and useful. Nothing really stops a hungry deer but suggestions here make it more difficult and slow them down.
