From beginning to end this book is beautiful. The author wrote about her own daughter and used pictures of her actual family to illustrate the book. The story is about a girl with down syndrome but it's not about the disorder at all, she is just the main character. She lost her favorite toy and her dad helps her look for it, a story every kid can relate to. Rabe highlights that her daughter is the same as any other child, playing and taking trips with her favorite toy in tow.
This is a very cute story about a little girl named Misty who has down syndrome. Before bed one night she realizes that she has lost her favorite stuffed animal and she cannot sleep without him. Her and her father retrace her steps throughout the whole day. Along the way she finds many other toys that she has left all over and is joyful for all of these things. Finally, they find chimpy in the bathroom where she left him before getting ready for bed! I really enjoyed this book because it did show more not portray Misty as having a disability, she just forgot where her stuffed animal was like any child could do. In the end of the story the father even loses his glasses and Misty finds them for him! show less
What I like about this book is that it isn't centered at all on the main character's handicaps, showing kids that behind Downs Syndrome are regular people who struggle with the same things as everyone else, in this particular instance, searching for a lost toy you just can't sleep without and having to retrace your steps. I think this could be a great tool to facilitate discussion about people with handicaps.
It was bedtime for Misty, but she couldn't sleep... her stuffed monkey, Chimpy, was nowhere to be found and she couldn't sleep without him. They looked all over until she and her dad found him.

Although it is never mentioned, the images clearly show that Misty has Down Syndrome.
