Family secrets and personal histories are unveiled in chapters that alternate between the 1940s and 2014 in Rosenfield's latest (after No One Will Miss Her). Despite being estranged, the adult children and granddaughter of Mimi Caravasios gather at her rundown mansion in Maine for what could be the last time. When the body of Mimi, who was suffering from dementia, is discovered under the ice in the bay on Christmas Day, her granddaughter, Del, questions whether the death was accidental, show more suicide, or murder. Suspects abound:

Uncle Richard, the family black sheep; Aunt Diana and her boring husband, who are deep in debt; darkly brooding Jack Dyer, the family nanny; Delphine's mother, Theodora, who was Mimi's main caretaker. Rosenfield provides plenty of twists and turns to keep readers guessing in this atmospheric mystery where all the characters had motive and means to commit murder, especially for the millions of dollars that Mimi's estate is worth.

I really liked this book, as I did No One Will Miss Her. This is a vastly different book. It is more family saga than mystery. As far as 'who did it?', I sort of guessed who did it but did not know why. A totally enjoyable read from a really good author.

I think the author needs to sit down and talk with the publisher about how this book was marketed. I read the blurbs on covers and saw something mentioning a twist. With this sort, one you know there is a twist, you know what it has to be. I won’t say it ruined the story for me, but it changed the entire reading experience. Having decided it was really the rich lady that was dead from the beginning, I read it to see if she was fair with the reader throughout, and, really, she was. There show more are a lot of extremely implausible things in the story, supergluing a mole on, walking out of a finance guys office with a bag full of money, knowing all the passwords….
In spite of all that, held my interest throughout, though I could have done without the kitten killing

Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone by Kat Rosenfield was a beautifully written debut and haunting in its subject matter.

I’m such a huge fan of murder mysteries and beautifully written prose, so I was kind of a sucker for Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone from the get-go. I just fell in love with Kat Rosenfield’s storytelling – the way the past (usually involving the history of the town or Becca and James’ relationship) was mixed in with the future to help connect certain events.

And the ending show more and the killer and how the mystery was solved and the lives ruined. I don’t know, it was just so…much. I had my suspicions about little parts of the whole thing, but the way Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone came together – I never saw it all coming.

I loved the alternating points of view – Becca’s and Amelia’s. They were both connected through their immense desire for things they weren’t given. They both had dreams, like Becca and her dream of going far away and Amelia’s acting career. I just thought it really helped connect the two in a way that made sense, even though they never knew each other.

Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone by Kat Rosenfield is a book I had to read in small doses. The writing is beautiful and overwhelming at points. If you’re looking for a haunting contemporary with beautiful writing, be sure not to miss Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone.

In Stan Lee’s A Trick of Light, Kat Rosenfield brings to life the first installment of Lee’s final project, the Alliances Universe. The story takes place sometime in the not-too-distant future with technology only slightly more advanced than our own. In that world, Cameron Ackerman desires to become internet famous by discovering the cause of mysterious storms on Lake Erie. While sailing into one such storm, lightning strikes and grants him the ability to telepathically link with and show more control electronics. While exploring the limits of his powers online, he meets Nia, someone who can match his abilities in the virtual world. Together, they begin taking on those who use the internet to stir up hate. Meanwhile, Nia’s father keeps her locked away. Their activities in the real world and online put both in danger. Lee developed this project with Luke Lieberman and Ryan Silbert and it originally appeared as an Audible original. Rosenfield’s novel dramatizes those events in a way that works as a standalone book while also promising more to come. A fun, modern superhero origin story that will appeal to Lee’s fans. show less
