Judith Bumpus (1939–2010)

Described as the first major study of the British artist Reginald Brill, this provides a fascinating and very readable account of the artist's life and work gleaned from the artist's diaries, archive material and thoughts from students and friends.

The book is well illustrated throughout with 46 half to full-page size black and white pictures of the artist's drawings, 30 period photographs and extracts from Brill's sketchbooks and 89 full-colour plates, many of which are full page in size and show more none less than half-page. There are no comments on the paintings other than the occasional mention in the text.

The book includes a chronology, "Recollections and Brill" in the words of a teacher and a student, but there is no index other than a list of illustrations. show less
