This was a “fluff” read thanks to COVID-19 but better than expected. A soldier with PTSD befriends the mother of a child who is the sole survivor of a classroom school shooting. The soldier is wrestling with whether to sell an inn he inherited on an east coast island and the mother has just opened a cafe on the island, hoping he sells the inn to a resort sure to lure in tourists to keep her cafe busy. Love ensues instead.
I was a bit skeptical that I would like a romantic fairy tale, but I was wrong. I was captivated from the first pages and was excited to keep reading. Moss does a wonderful job of making you feel like you're part of the small town in Ireland. Her characters feel real, and you fall in love with each of them. Dom has all the qualities you want in a hero, and Tara's story is very moving (Don't want to give too much away). The pacing was perfect, and I loved it so much I finished the book in a show more few days. The fairy tale/magical part of the story didn't seem silly or contrived, and really worked for me. I can't wait to read the next story in this line of books which says a lot about the development of the secondary characters. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a contemporary romance with a magical twist. show less
I loved The Selkie Spell, so I couldn't wait to read The Selkie Enchantress. I finished this book in two days. It was a real page turner that didn't disappoint. I loved how Sophie wove together a complex and intricate story, but made it such a joy to read. Caitlin is a wonderful heroine with her own dark secrets, and Liam is a strong hero. I enjoyed the development of Nuala, and all the lessons that came with her unique journey. Sophie did an amazing job of creating a highly developed plot show more in which you're taken into this magical world, but it feels real. This story is so full of emotion and highly developed characters. One thing I love about series is how you can become so connected to all of the characters. Seeing Tara and Kelsey again was especially great. The ending is a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to read The Selkie Sorceress to see how this all plays out with Glenna's story. show less
I liked the setting, I loved the selkie legend, I liked the interactions and the pictures painted by the words. I found the tension created by the husband back in his personal dictatorship stunning and real. I found the steamy bits too steamy for my taste, but then I write childrens/MG books and maybe I'm just not used to that stuff! I was really irritated at the start by language choices totally out of keeping with the setting and characters, but these didn't continue through into the later show more book, and the pace of the tale enabled me to more or less forget them. But it made me feel the author didn't really know island Irish people - or what a remote west coast island would be like.
But it is a great tale, spun tight and wringing your heartstrings out along with the heroine's. Good work, Ms Moss.
