Short biography
Maura Seger was born in 1951. She and her husband, Michael, met while they were both working for the same company. They married after a whirlwind courtship that might have been taken directly from romance novel. She credits her husband's patient support and good humor for helping her fulfill the lifelong dream of being a writer.

Published since 1982, Maura Seger is a prolific novelist, who also wrote under many pseudonyms over time: Maeve Fitzgerald, Anne MacNeill, Jenny Bates, Sara Jennings, Laurel Winslow, Laura Michaels, Laura Hastings, and Josie Litton. She used different pennames to re-invent herself.

She is happily at work on a new novel, because she finds that writing each romance is and adventure filled with fascinating people who never fail to surprise her. When she isn't writing, she keeps busy homeschooling her two children and thinking of new stories. She lives in New England, USA, with her husband, children and menagerie... mostly.

We are back on Akora (yay!), where Gavin Hawkfore, son of Royce and Kassandra, is investigating his theory that the volcanic disaster that blew Akora apart three thousand years ago is about to happen again. On the deserted island of Diematos, he encounters Persephone, who has been living there in solitude since her mother's death many years before. He is impressed by her self-sufficiency and her intelligence and though she's initially wary, they work together to gather more evidence of the show more coming disaster. Their next challenge will be convincing the people they need to heed their warnings and save the land from destruction. (And also, uncover the secret of why Persephone grew up in isolation, but that was pretty obvious from the beginning if you're paying attention to this series).
These books are so great. Another strong, intelligent, independent, self-sufficient heroine who is not conquered by the hero but bolstered and supported and invited into a true partnership. This is really what I like to see. I'm sad that the next one is the last.

I love the kingdom of Akora. I want to live there.
Princess Kassandra of Akora has always had a gift: She sometimes gets glimpses of the future. What she sees, the destruction of Akora, is something she hopes to prevent. Kassandra's new brother-in-law, Royce of Hawkforte did not have a great time the last time he was in Akora, what with being held prisoner and all. He's got a bone to pick with those who threaten Akora's future as well. (Also, obvs, they like each other).
Kassandra is an show more awesome heroine. So intelligent and strong, willing to do her duty to her country even if it threatens her burgeoning romance, capable of stepping in for her brother, the Vanax, and ruling while he is unable. Royce is not threatened by her strength and intelligence, rather he admires her for it and seeks to protect her as well as support her in doing what she must. (He does go a bit overboard on the protectiveness thing, but don't they all?). I love it. I love this writer. Can't wait for more...and I think I know where the next one is headed!! show less

The final book in Litton's Akora series does not disappoint! Princess Clio, daughter of Vanax Atreus and his consort Brianna, would rather dig in the dirt for artifacts than in any way behave like Will's stereotypical idea of a princess. The Earl of Hollister is surprised when Clio calmly and logically reacts to the murder of an unknown person near his estate of Holyhood by searching for clues and questioning the witness. However, he quickly becomes pleased by her demeanor as she assists him show more in the dangerous undertaking he's engaged in.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Even in a historical romance, Litton gives her heroines genuine intelligence and independence and her heroes the strength and self-assurance to be partners with and not threatened by their spouses. The Akoran idea of "Men rule and women serve" is justly tempered by the equally held idea that "A man must never, ever harm a woman" .. a very fluid definition of "harm" effectively keeps the balance of power.

I'm very sad I'm done with this series and will definitely be checking out more of Litton's work.

Atreus is Vanax of Akora, a title similar to King, but not quite. The Vanax is chosen in a mysterious ritual, and it's rumored that the chooser is Akora itself. However, those who seek power and wish to discredit and oust him claim this as a lie. Brianna helped nurse Atreus through a recent convalescence and then returned to England seeking more information about the country she supposes she was from before she washed up a shipwrecked orphan on the shores of Akora. Atreus has determined from show more a vision he saw during his Vanax-choosing ritual, that she is to be his consort, and goes off to England to "fetch" her. Brianna is not easily fetched, and Atreus is not used to being contradicted. The sparks really fly between these two! I loved them both and the land of Akora as well. show less
