This is the BEST book for a pre-reader. After reading it just twice, my grandson "reads it" to me. His story sometimes aligns with the words on the page and sometimes is way more colorful. I can't think of a better way to ignite the passion for reading in a toddler.
Meh.
Since it goes against my nature to review a book with just one word, I will elaborate briefly. The story is a simplified origin story for Spiderman, or at least one of the many variants circulating in comics, movies, and cartoons (I didn't care enough to verify which one). While the book uses basic sentences appropriate for younger readers, the story is bland and not well adapted from the graphic format. Also, it alludes to the more horrible aspects of the story (his Uncle Ben's death) show more but doesn't fully commit. Either explain it clearly, or leave it out altogether. Much like the text, the pictures are adequate but don't stand out in any way. Despite these serious flaws, my girls enjoy reading it, simply for the character. Ah well. They'll get older and learn. show less

I teach upper elementary special education, so I love it when I can find high-interest boy books written at a lower reading level! My students love superheros, but comic book vocabulary is incredibly difficult. Even other superhero books written for children have pretty advanced language. So this book is great - easy vocabulary, lots of vivid pictures, and it's short. This would be an excellent addition to my library for free reading time.
