In quilting, the Nine-Patch block is a good, basic block that still can be quite stunning. This book, Nine-Patch Revolution, takes this basic concept and changes it up, in 20 different quilt variations -- with photos and instructions.

I have not yet tried any of the patterns, so I can't evaluate accuracy or ease of following directions, but one thing I really like about this book is that it provides suggestions in visual diagram form, on how to machine quilt the finished tops -- instead of show more just simply saying "quilt as desired" as many patterns do. This is helpful for quilters who machine quilt at least some of their own quilts, instead of sending them out to be quilted. show less
At first I wasn't excited by the quilting reference book but I find myself going back to it again and again for ideas on how to quilt certain spaces. It's light on technique but great for thumbing through to get ideas. I'm working on a quilt right now that I was able to figure out some tricky border areas that stumped me using this book. I think it's going to be a great resource.
Free-Motion Quilting by Angela Walters is a book for modern quilts. There are no feathers to learn nor is the notion of 'perfect quilting'. Walters encourages to draw, and practice, practice quilting techniques.
Free-Motion Quilting is a step-by-step learning book. Walters shows how each design is connected to the next, not just showing one design, leaving you to wonder what to do next.
What I liked about Free-Motion Quilting is that the quilting looks clean on the quilt, by using matching show more threads. I also like her idea of using different stitching to emphasize a center block, or sections of the quilt. You are then able to recognize where one block ends and another begins. This book is good for anyone who is not attempting to quilt a traditional quilt and wants to make their project fun and unique!

The author is supposed to be showing how a reader can improve her quilting with modern quilting patterns. However, her patterns are all borrowed zentangle patterns. It would have been more useful to title the book "zentangle quilting."
