I love looking at cookbooks, and this one was a treat. Wilbur specialized in duplicating famous foods in your home kitchen, from restaurants as well as well known foods. The illustrations are well done and helpful. I tried the fudgsicle recipe and it was just like the ones you can buy. Summer is a great time to try those fun recipes like this, and this will be most helpful. Recommended.
Having never dined at most of the chain restaurants in Top Secret Restaurant Recipes, I have no idea how close Todd Wilbur comes to recreating their dishes. I do know this, his recipe for chicken fajitas (a knock off of Chili's) is great. It's the only recipe I go to time and time again and all the stains on the pages prove it.
I remember my first Top Secret Recipes experience. A friend had loaned me her copy of this cookbook which had a recipe for something we had been talking about (I believe it was a candy). I can't remember what the recipe was because a few pages in and I was in love. Todd Wilbur has become famous for breaking down popular processed foods so that the average cook can make them in their kitchen. After many books, Todd is coming out with a greatest hits (a first in cookbook history).
This book is show more only available in e-book and is designed to help smooth the way for those who love e-books. This is the first Top Secret Recipes book to go digital.
If you are not familiar with Top Secret Recipes, recommend this book as a great introduction. If you are already a fan, this is a condensed version with his most popular recipes.
The recipes range from popular sweets like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Oreos to restaurant standards like McDonald's Big Mac and Outback Steakhouse's Bloomin' Onion. Each recipe comes with a short introduction to the company and the dish.

This is an interesting book filled with popular fast food recipes, such as KFC chicken and cole slaw, Twinkies, Dairy Queen's Blizzard, the Big Mac, Mounds & Almond Joy, Snickers, & Long John Silver's batter-dipped fish. I found it eye-opening to see what was in some of my favorite take out foods, but I don't feel the need to make any of them myself. After all, if I want a Snickers, it's a lot easier to buy one for .60 than to make one. Still, if you're wondering "how do they make that", the show more diagrams and recipes are worth a read. Don't be surprised though if you find yourself not wanting to eat as much of some of these take-out favorites after you see how bad they are for you. show less
