This book frankly seemed to be less an account of the battle itself and more a script for the reenactment of the battle's 125th anniversary (which served as the source of the pictures). While the events of the battle were interesting, there was nothing more to the book than that. It was simply a chronological list of events during the Battle of Gettysburg.
The Falling Raindrop is a good book to read aloud. It has beautiful illustrations and the text on the page is not busy. It follows the journey of a raindrop from the cloud to its final destination on Earth. What kind of emotions and struggles will the raindrop encounter is what the reader will find out.
Summary:
Tells of the Battles of Lexington and Concord which began the Revolutionary war and helped to shape a new nation. The pictures of modern day man and women dressed in reenactment gear only goes to show children the difference in the British and the Colonial army's.
Personal Reaction:
I found this book to be accurate and easy to read for the young history buff.
Classroom Extension:
Expand on the story with a brief lesson on the buildup to these events such as the Boston Tea Party.
I loved this book! It tells the story of a little raindrop who falls out of the sky, and gets afraid on the way down. It also tells of how he lands in a fire and floats back up.
