Grace Can Do More: Spiritual Accompaniment and Spiritual Growth (Volume 195) (Cistercian Studies Series) by Andre Louf OCSO
The book is good for those in ministry wanting to focus on spiritual guidance. While there is a lot of good advice in the book, I feel like it could have been a twenty-page article with a conclusion reminding the minister that "God's grace can do more." and that be it.
Excellent little book.
The first half is the actual essay by Fr. Louf. The second half is a collection of deeply meaningful and insightful quotes, homilies, and other writings from the desert fathers and mothers, early church fathers, and saints.
Fr. Louf's assertion is that the virtue/idea/concept of Christian humility cannot be understood through reason alone. It must be experienced through faith, hope, and most importantly grace in Jesus Christ.
As the title suggest, it is not so much an show more essay on what humility is (although it does cover this), but on the way one journeys toward humility. It is not an easy path, but is most necessary for a deeper relationship with God.
Highly recommended book if one is serious about seeking humility and a deeper relationship with God. show less
