Jeremy Paul, one of the writers from the Granada Sherlock Holmes series, initially wrote this to commemorate the anniversary of Holmes and to further explore his friendship with Watson. The play starred Jeremy Brett as Holmes and Edward Hardwicke as Doctor John Watson, reprising their roles from the Granada series. Paul's play features a series of vignettes lifted from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's own writing or backstory of Paul's own creation to explore Holmes' and Watson's inner thoughts to show more explain some of their motives and actions. Much of the play examines the impact of Reichenbach Falls on their friendship and should satisfy those who wish Doyle had spent time examining this when he resurrected Holmes. Paul demonstrates a mastery of the Doyle canon and his story will appeal most to those familiar with it, who can best enjoy how Paul interprets the canon and works his narrative into it. Further, those familiar with the Granada series will easily imagine Brett and Hardwicke reading the lines as they did during the play's theatrical run. show less
