A typical early 20th century "history of costume" survey. Valuable for choosing a time/place for a persona, but worse than useless for designing garb. 13th century women's clothing is identified as 12th century, and is (to be generous) imaginatively drawn.
This book is a combination of the plates from several of Tilke's works published early in the 20th century. The section on historical garments has problems and a few errors. However, the section on non-European clothing is an invaluable document. The drawings are to scale, although the scale may vary from one drawing to another.
Organized by antiquity, Early civilizations, Rome into Germanic periods, more modern times and the looks from around the world, and finally a 1950's chapter
