My Life with George: What I Learned About Joy From One Neurotic (and Very Expensive) Dog by Judith Summers
"My life with George" is a funny and moving account of an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The story portrays his many misdeamours and the wonderful way in which he helped fill a void in Judith and Joshua's lives while driving them barking mad along the way.
Not at all a bad book, but I did skip a few chapters. I have read Casanova's memoirs and the chapters I skipped were about women I really was not interested in.
I think this book is well written, in a nice and easy style. It's like reading the memoirs all over again, only the short version.
It's nice to see that some of these women have actually been identified later on. In this book you get some extra background information on them. It really adds to the whole story.
When you red the memoirs show more you can't help but wonder if he was always telling the truth. It was therefore no surprise to read he'd been telling lies here and there...
Again, a good addition to the whole story.
The edition I read also contained some images, putting faces on the names.
All in all, I would think this is a little more interesting to people who would find the memoirs too long, but still want to know about the man. I found this book nice overall, but not a 'must read', because I had read the memoirs. It's simply an addition, nothing spectacular. show less

This book caught my eye because I breed these dogs. I loved this book as I could relate to behaviours exibited by George. I laughed and cried through the pages as I followed the story of George from pup to elderly.

Definitely should be on the list of 1001 books NOT read before you die. It is a whimsical tale for animal enthusiasts only - and the sort of of animal lover who likes to dress them up in fancy dress and feed the Thornton's chocolate.
