While this book has some nice samples of mid century pieces, it also contains a lot of art deco and 60's/70s, which can be a little confusing. Additionally, while it alleges to give a modern spin to mid century, the styling looks a bit kitschy to me, even in the final section.
This is the catalogue to a National Touring Exhibition organised by the Hayward Gallery in association with the Royal Institution of British Architects (RIBA) of designs for buildings that never got built. Some of them were practical proposals, some were fantasies, and others were more along the lines of political manifestoes in drawings.
There is much of science-fictional interest here: O'Neill's L5 space colonies, set designs from 'Things to Come', 'Just imagine' and other films more show more obscure, as well as interpretations of the London of Orwell's 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' and Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis'. show less
