Victoria Roberts had me at a “Highlander”!
I found this story to be very easy to read and I think that was because the plot was interesting and intriguing, but I also credit the characterization of the hero and the heroine for the story being such a pleasure to read. Their banter alone is worth a read!
Putting together two strong characters can sometimes backfire, but not in this case. I loved the reversal of roles, of sorts. This time around we had the heroine in a role of a spy and she show more was so good! I don’t think our hero, as Alpha as he was, had a chance!
If you love medieval Scotland and men in kilts, if you love spy stories that are chock full of intrigue, with some betrayal and sensual romance in it, this one is not to be missed.

Declan MacGregor, is at King James court in 1604, watching out for Liadain Campbell until the King decides what to do with her. When Declan wins an archery contest, the King gives him Castle Campbell and orders him to take Liadain as wife. Declan is something of a ladies man and not ready to be curtailed and Liadain is a healer who only show more wants to be left alone to continue her work. There are rumors circulating calling her a witch and a plot to kill the King. Interesting Medieval romance. show less
Grace is in the Highlands for her sister Ravenna’s wedding to Ruairi, laird of the Sutherland clan. Ravenna met Ruairi during the course of her duties as a spy for the English crown. Now she’s retired and taking up residence in the Highlands.
Grace isn’t crazy about Scots, the Highlands, or Fagan, captain of her brother-in-laws guard. She longs for adventure and wants to take Ravenna’s place as spy for the crown. She has no doubt she’d make an excellent spy and will speak to her show more uncle when she returns to English soil, the manor, and her fiancé, Lord Casterbrook.
Grace soon discovers the veracity of the adage, “Be careful what you wish for.” She gets adventure in spades and learns what spying truly entails.
At eighteen Grace is fairly young and naïve, but not to hear her tell it. She’s got plenty of spunk, sass, and confidence. Youthful heroines can often be frustrating in a horror movie, “don’t go in there” way. They always do and you find yourself distracted from the story because you’re blessing out the heroine. When did she take the stupid pill that put her in this gosh awful predicament? The wonderfully refreshing thing about Grace is that despite her lack of worldly knowledge and experience she doesn’t lapse into idiocy. She actually learns from her mistakes, pays attention, and doesn’t overestimate her abilities. She isn’t responsible for any of the quandaries she finds herself in.
Fagan Murray is your standard brawny, ruggedly handsome Highlander or kilted barbaric Scottish miscreant to use one of Grace’s opinions. Fagan has a sense of humor, falling for Grace is evidence of that. He’s alpha and honorable without being over the top, though there are times Grace would no doubt disagree.
Even if, like me, you didn’t read the first in the series you won't have any difficulty following the events and characters. KILTS AND DAGGERS is a spirited romantic adventure with a hero and heroine who spar as well as they fit together. Absolutely delightful.

This book was cute, fun and I read it in no time at all. The pages kind of just flew by and I love when it does that. I adore light and easy.
It's a part of a series, but like I always (well almost) say it can be read as a stand alone. The hero we met in another book, the heroine is new. We meet some old friends too. But you do not need to know their story, it more makes you want to read their story too.
Alexander is a sexy Highlander with troublesome neighbors and he is need of a wife. show more Sybella is the daughter to the troublesome highlander and is offered to him. I liked that they did not hate each other or fought. No they kind of just drifted towards each other with an ease. Even though Sybella has a secret...one that will destroy their new found love.
There is romance, passion, a bit of suspense, some drama and a lightness of it all.
I like these bad boys of the highlands, and I want more. show less
