This is a cute chapter poetry book designed for second graders. It's a fun delightful book about snacks and sweets that makes one want to have a treat. There are different styles of poetry so it would be a good book to use to teach children how to write their own poetry.

I believe you actually read from this book in class one day. I randomly grabbed this book from East Bank Regional library but I was pleasantly surprised. I think this anthology of poems is a great way to introduce kids to poetry. The poems were simple and easy to understand but they rhymed and really got the point of poetry across. I believe this is a book I would like to have in my classroom one day. I believe reading one poem from this book in the morning would be a great way to start the day.

After reading "How About Never--is Never Good for You," I wanted to read more New Yorker cartoons. I found this book in the library I went to, even though they didn't have the magazine. It shows that cartoonists can make fun of kid's stories in an adult way and is often a launching pad for ideas.

Use this book with a variety of grade levels. Younger grades will love hearing the nursery rhymes and seeing the cartoons. Older grade levels ma appreciate the meanings behind both the nursery rhymes and the cartoons. The book is a compilation of 25 traditional nursery rhymes. Every rhyme is followed by several related cartoons collected from THE NEW YORKER. Addresses fantasy, rhyming, references to real life hardships. In lower grade levels, read the rhyme to students and have them draw show more their own cartoon to go along. For older children, use as individual work to create own cartoon with a caption or have students work in groups to create their own rhyme and cartoon with caption.
