It’s been a decade since the outbreak of V2000 and everything went horribly wrong. Vampires are no longer hiding in the shadows, but with the virus comes a high price: most humans are turned into a mutated Vampire offshoot called vamps. True, pureblood humans are a fast dwindling commodity and even though they have a synthetic blood that they can survive on, Vampires crave warm sweet blood straight from the tap.
Danika Chekov is the only female Vampire Lord in show more America. She’s young, too. So of course, the older male Vampire Lords try to make her feel inferior. But Danika is made of sterner stuff. She may be going through a rough patch and someone may or may not be trying to kill her, but she will not bow down to anyone. So she purchases Mason, a human swept up by a slaver crew. Their attraction to each other is undeniable. But Mason isn’t what he seems and Danika’s world is about to get very complicated.
Bad timing on my part, but I just finished a Vampires-Take-Over-The-World book and it sucked. So, I went into this one with great reluctance and was immediately sucked in. Hehe I said sucked in. Like blood…oh, nevermind. Anyway, the characters are awesome, the world is complicated, and the mystery is twisty. My only complaint is the terminology for the Vampires, vampyr and vamps confused the fuck out of me for far too long. It wasn’t explained very well or I just didn’t get it. I’m not sure which. Anyway, Mason is definitely not human. I’m not giving anything away with this observation. You’ll see it in the opening chapter. But what he is…is something cool. I love this story and can’t wait to read more in this series. show less

Kidnapped at Christmas: A Paranormal Mystery Romance (Otherworlder Paranormal Mystery Series Book 1) by Rebekah R. Ganiere
I have found a new Paranormal author to add to my list of Must Reads. The Otherworlder universe is so enticing to me, because there’s Fae, shifters, a dragon (a little one, but still), and witches. With the female MC Fae not having magic, that is of interest to me as to why she doesn’t, is there a reason why, and how/when will that be figured out. Plus there’s Mrs. Kringle, her son Gabriel, and a mention of Santa. This town is a Paranormal fan’s playground.
The story flowed show more effortlessly. The mixture of paranormal with a mystery was enough to hold my interest. Add in the touches of romance trying to happen between Raine and Jordan, and it was more interesting. I was reading every minute when I didn’t have to do stuff for my family. show less

Midnight Magic: A Limited Edition Collection of Magical Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Tales (Charmed Magic Collections) by Siera London
I read Witch Switch by Louisa Bacio in this anthology.
This book was intriguing. Love, mystery, revenge…toss in hidden powers, unknown siblings and losing yourself and having to refind yourself, you have the makings of a good tale. This is a novella but the author didn’t quite leave us hanging. It is the start of a series. HOORAY! I can’t wait to read more. This was like a bad fairytale that you can root for good to win. Rafe, Cheyenne, and Jupiter can kick butt with the best of them. I show more loved the fact that Cheyenne and Jupiter are strong and can basically do things on their own (together-sister power), there’s another sister later in the story. The characters have strong personalities. Meredith may have evil powers yet she’s pretty much a spoiled brat not getting her way. The plot had a really good flow. The story wasn’t choppy. My favorite part was the scene in the forest. The whole tone of the story kept you on the edge of your seat. It’s a very romantic tale with some spice scattered throughout so there’s a little of everything for everyone (if you love romance). I think you need to buy this book and check it out. It’s a new favorite for me. show less

In the first Heaven and Hell novella, grip reaper Rose just wants Halloween night to be over. Every night since her death twenty years earlier, she has had to reap evil souls no matter how much she hates doing so. On Halloween, however, she has to transport souls from Hell to Earth so they can have a bit of fun, and then she makes sure they return to Hell. As she’s rounding up the souls for the night, she sees a human in the cemetery who can actually see her. Needless to say, she’s show more shocked. So she chases after him.
Elijah is a Jumper—a soul that jumps from one human body to another to avoid going to Heaven or Hell. His love for Rose has transcended the ages, but his role as an angel, and now a Jumper Angel, has brought the wrath of other angels down on his and Rose’s heads. With Lucifer on their case, as well, Rose and Elijah only have one year to beat the odds and find a way to stay together.
This is a great story. Rose is snarky, fun, and courageous. Elijah is protective and secretive, but Rose, nor the reader, learns all of his secrets in this story. I’m sure more will be revealed in future installments of the series.
There are some typos, but I enjoyed Ms. Ganiere’s fast-paced, upbeat writing style.
