I'm a bit biased towards this book as it's been one of my favourite things I've ever read. Want to read a discussion with a scientist about tests on plant empathy? Want to read about Grant Morrison's experience being abducted by 5th-dimensional beings, who showed him our universe was a 5th-dimensional being in a larval state? Want to see works by one of the most brilliant artists you've never heard of, who relates advanced metaphysics through diagrams? Want to read about Genesis P-Orridges show more strange and fascinating career helping to invent psychic music and popularize magick anyone can do? Want to read about how it is in our genetic and evolutionary instincts to be destructive? Well, this book is a good starting ground for all types of diverse and subversive thinking. It will blow your mind if you pick it up and give it a chance. Way better than the TV series, btw, as it has full interviews, edited together by the pretentious guy on the cover. show less
Book of Lies: The Disinformation Guide to Magick and the Occult (Disinformation Guides) by Richard Metzger
This book hasn't aged well, there's
Many clever texts and interesting ideas in this mixed bag. The text "Pop Magic" by Grant Morrison and "Are You illuminated ?" by Phil Hine are the most insightful. Apart from Magic (or Magick) stuff, this book is packed with unconventional ideas and points of view that are worth knowing.
Most of this book is filled with excerpts or essays from or about the acid-head culture of the 50's or so. Chock full of know-nothingism, it's only redeeming value being the rather interesting entry about John Dee, as well as Grant Morrison's sober look at magic. I did have a chance to read another Disinformation guide which erroneously claimed that Condaleeza Rice was under oath when she testified for the 9/11 commission.
