Great cast in bittersweet story of Tushingham's conflict with her mother, the wonderful Dora Bryan, involvement with black sailor Danquah, and friendship with gay man Melvin. Gritty Manchester settings. Many memorable scenes and great dialogue. This one sticks with you.
2022 movie #201. 1960. Archie Rice is a British song and dance man who refuses to accept that his mediocre career is over. Olivier, who mainly played parts like Hamlet prior to this is almost frightening as the increasingly desperate Archie ruins his family in a comeback try.
2026 movie #32. 1962. When she remarries, a working class English woman abandons her teenager daughter Jo (Tushingham). Jo then gets pregnant by a young sailor who's ship soon leaves port. Jo finds friendship in a young gay man but remains ambivalent about the baby.
The romantic and chivalrous adventures of adopted bastard Tom Jones in 18th century England. (IMDb)
