I like the premise: real witches & their cat familiars solve supernatural crime at Christmastime. Here, to catch a killer that eats children during winter solstice. But the main character is disturbing; she laughs & makes jokes at inappropriate times. I strongly disliked her making stupid decisions, plainly as plot devices. I don’t think the author realizes the mc is so unlikeable! She comes across as a ditzy female who lacks any depth. SPOILER ALERT: and it takes a man and a gun to show more finally resolve the final conflict. So much for strong women taking down evil by their own powers. show less
Delightfully, Dangerously, Brewed New Series...
"'You won't be in jail!'I retorted, based solely on my own observances and not the years of police work and training that the detectives would be relying on." This is the gut reaction of Harper Lin's heroine, Franny Amaro, in Tea, Tiramisu, and Tough Guys. Franny cannot believe that her hunky high school crush, Todd, could have killed young Joe Davis and left his body behind Todd's own gym. However, Franny's current romantic interest, neighbor, show more and sleuthing partner, Matt Cardosi, doesn't agree.
When Todd shows an interest in Franny, Franny needs to decide whether Todd is, in fact, innocent;which man interests her more; and who to question in this touristy oceanside town. A wrong decision could spell the end for Franny's amateur crime - solving and her existence as well.
I was happy to discover this new series that is light and sweetly, teasingly romantic, yet clean. I am anxious to continue with the series and see how the characters develop and grow.
I was gifted a copy of the ebook from the author in exchange for a review. show less

John Roy has committed suicide and his wife said that two black eyed children came into the house to use the phone the night before his death. Astrid, Bea, and Cath know something is wrong and begin to research what it is and what to do to stop it. They realize someone has called a very powerful demon who feeds off fear. Can they stop it?
I was held enthralled by this tale. Evil is upon Wonder Falls and it is up to our heroines to sort it out. Cath is also getting closer to acknowledging her show more feelings for Blake. I loved watching the women and their cats fight back the evil. I enjoyed that Cath was not as well behaved as she should have and suffered the consequences for it. I am po'd at Blake. I'd like to smack him upside the head.
I love this series and cannot wait to read book 5. show less

Cappuccinos, Cupcakes, and a Corpse by Harper Lin
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. My initial response is that it is a real good read.
I am not a huge fan of what is called I believe a cozy mystery…where the main character gets involved in solving a murder. In the case of this book by Harper Lin I must admit I had fun reading it.
Franny (full name Fransesca) has recently lost her mother and has returned to the small town of Cape Bay to run a cute little coffee shop that show more used to belong to her grandparents and then her mother. Shortly after her return she stumbles across the dead body of her neighbor Mr. Cardosi. Mr. Cardosi’s grandson, Matty (to Franny – full name Matthew) enters the scene and renews his old friendship with Franny. Initially the death is thought to be of natural causes but it is soon determined to be murder. Franny is determined to solve the murder and enlists Matty to help her in her search for the murderer.
As always in these types of novels I wonder why the heroine would even attempt to solve a murder. What background does she have to even qualify to do this. But the authors of these types of books, as Harper Lin proves, manage to make it all work out.
I am glad I read this story and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I must find out who sent the roses.
