Half-Sun on the Columbia: A Biography of Chief Moses (Volume 80) (The Civilization of the American Indian Series) by Robert H. Ruby
Found this book in a used book store in Bend Oregon. Its a journalistic style biography of chief Moses, with lots of newspaper, government documents and interviews. I was particularly interested in the descriptions of how the land looked during that time (Niagra sized waterfalls on the Columbia) and what plants were important (camas and bunchgrass). What were the Wenatchee fisheries?
A Doctor among the Oglala Sioux Tribe: The Letters of Robert H. Ruby, 1953-1954 by Robert H. Ruby Dr.
Letters written by Dr. Robert Ruby compiled into a book.
Dr. Robert Ruby's account and opinions of the BIA's civilizing efforts on the Oglala Sioux people.
From the flap: "This contribution to the folklore and history of the Oglalas is a piece of highly interesting Americana..." I'll read it and see if it lives up to the hype.
