Russel Ward (1914–1995)

This collection of English language ballads, both folk and literary, includes a generous selection of the texts of Aussies’ songs about themselves and their land from the late 18th through the mid-20th centuries. There are lyrics about convicts and transportation, even a few about squatters, the gold rush, shearing, and plenty about bushrangers and stock drovers. It’s a rollicking and lively collection and lots of fun to read.

An interesting short lecture, mainly dealing with how the offspring of convicts exported from England to Australia didn't end up drunks or crooks like their sires.
