This book for me is sort of an ongoing refference for private and professional use. This book is polarizing and for me personally it stands between 2.5 and 3 stars, probably closer to 2.5.
While most of Dahlke's writing about the link between "body (soma) and soul (psyche)" is fascinating, and in many cases applicabale to real life cases, I cannot get over the flaws of this book. For me these are the following:

1. Dahlke's absolute belief in God, spirituality (esoteric in the worst sense) and show more the many references to bible passages or biblical scenarios.

2. While I can agree with some of his points about the constant changes to disease guidelines (most polarizing example: depression after the death of the lifelong partner), I find it insulting and condescending how he handles some of the more recently discovered or changed diseases: if you were to believe him, most of us affected with more recent diagnoses are simply slaves to our inner voices that tell us to slack, be lazy, overeat, pick our skins, be in pain 24/7, and so on.

So overall for patients I would NOT recommend this book, but instead refer to his work [book:The Healing Power of Illness: Understanding What Your Symptoms Are Telling You|705062] or pick up some of the patient workbooks available from oxford Press or other outlets if you really can't be bothered with Dahlke.

I can appreciate many parts of this book, while other parts just alienate me and make me want to question my judgement for spending money on this book.

A book on 'what symptoms really mean'. Which oddly enough doesn't contain any information on actually what symptoms mean.

For instance if you wear glasses you should go without them for a day and work out 'what you are trying not to see'.

We spent a happy evening at work laught at this book.
