4358. A New History of Kentucky, by Lowell H. Harrison and James C. Klotter (read 8 Sep 2007) Though I have no connection to Kentucky, I found this book full of interest. The chapters on political events are easy and good reading. I have read other state histories (North Dakota, Nevada, Wyoming) and this is better than some of those.
