The photographs are large and clear; the alliterative sentences that accompany them (one for each letter of the alphabet)less so. There are too many new logging/lumbering/forestry/silviculture terms (without accompanying photos & labels) for the book to be truly effective. For instance, a skidder is mentioned, so is pulping--no photos are provided of either. Having said that, I did find there were interesting facts here. They just aren't as accessible to kids as I think they should be. show more Timber! by Jaspersohn is a better choice if kids want to see some of the modern equipment used. show less
This book was a fun read. It is about a young girl who has a mother that stands up for what she beleives in even if it is humilating for her daughter Callie. This would be a great book for middle school kids and I am anxious to read the rest of the series by Ann Walsh. Alot of young people will be able to identify with this character. Read spring 08. Self selected read-series (Karla)
