This is very much an "admire advanced designers" book. There are some techniques in the front, but the rest of the book show designers' work with descriptions of how they made them that are not always very helpful. For instance, there is a project by Jan Messent where she embroiders over older embroideries to get a palimpsest look. However, it's clear from the pictures that it's not just any old embroidery. She carefully selected what to use and perhaps pulled out some of the stitching show more before doing the new embroidery. Lots of neat ideas, but not a lot of help accomplishing them. show less
A much-needed book on cutting-edge textile design and practice with experimental design ideas, unusual materials and the latest techniques. The author takes you through the design process, from finding original ideas, to the latest techniques various artists use to transform the designs into finished textiles.
