Can't argue with the author's choice of articles. Good representation of work from chiefly sociocognitive perspective. Lacks discussion of engagement and motivation, of critical literacy (or critical literacy "lite"), and anything on disciplinary literacy.
I begged my administrator to purchase this for me after attending the state reading convention. What a great resource! This provides practical, yet expertly researched ideas and solutions to common literacy problems. A great feature is included for pre-service and new teachers at the end of each chapter - questions and activities to evaluate current teaching.
My copy is all highlighted, dog eared, and sticky noted. It has been passed around the building for sharing ideas. This book should be show more a gift to each new teacher by their principal! show less
A helpful book focused mostly on primary school children and older (rather than the earliest beginning readers).
