Before I comment on this book, I have to point out my own biases. In general, I prefer knit garments. I find the drape and bulk of crochet better suited to other projects. I might feel differently if I lived somewhere with a colder winter :)
That being said, this book has some cute patterns, but only one that I'm interested in making - the "Instant Gratification Purse". I may well use ideas from the other two purse patterns to create my own purses.
A word of caution about the tank tops. In show more the photos, they look like they're shaped to skim the body. They're not, that's a trick of the photography. When the model's wearing the garment, it's clipped in the back to look more tailored than it is. Each one is just a straight rectangle that will hang more or less straight from the bustline. That's why this book gets a 2 star rating instead of the three. Not accurately photographing the garments annoys me.
It's a good volume to borrow from the library, and look through for ideas. The crocheted hats patterns looked like fun, I just happen to prefer to knit hats. show less

My youngest daughter gave this book to me. She taught herself, then she taught me and we were gonna go and knit wonderful things together. Then, she ditched it and gave me all her knitting stuff. Now I don't knit so much any more. I miss her.
This is a perfect little book to help you learn new stitches...well... you actually better know at least the basics. This guide gives you small repetitive charts to go by. So, this is actually a great book in lessons for show more reading charts and creating all of the wonderful stitches photographed. show less

This set offers 24 crochet patterns that can each be finished in 24 hours or less. I found that the patterns included are very simple and you might even find similar ones online for free. This was a free review copy from NetGalley but one of my biggest things when purchasing crochet patterns is that I want to be paying for patterns that are unique and that I won't find free of charge online.
While I was not a fan of the presentation, in particular the photos, the patterns themselves are well show more written and simple. This collection is good for beginners. There are patterns here for scarves, hats, baby items, purses and more. Each pattern gives you an approximate time for how long the project will take to complete.
There is also a "Refresher Course" at the end of the book with diagrams and a stitch guide like every good pattern collection should have.
Out of all the patterns, this Hipster Scarf is the one I liked. I have added this to my list of things to crochet.
So, overall this is a collection of simple crochet patterns for beginners with clear instructions and would make a nice addition to your collection if you are a crocheting newbie and were looking to purchase a pattern book. However, if you are looking for great patterns, Lion Brand and Caron yarns are my go-to’s, and they offer them free of charge. I print patterns from there and keep them in a binder for reference.

An attractive book with some truly inspiring and well executed quilts. I love looking at books like this but there are times I surely wish they included a few hints on how the quilts were accomplished! Some of the quilt artists shown do have books of their own, but most do not.
