Purpose: Lenski has produced a comprehensive commentary of Matthew for pastors and series students.
Depth: This is a technical work that uses the original languages.
Theological perspectives: Conservative, evangelical, Lutheran
Evaluation: Lenski has produced an excellent volume that deals with all the difficult issues. Lenski gives good explanations to justify his exegetical choices. He also provides a very helpful overview of ancient commentators as well. This book should be part of every show more study of Matthew. show less

The interpretation of the Epistles of St. Peter, St. John and St. Jude, (His Commentary on the New Testament) by R. C. H Lenski
As with all of Lenski's commentaries, this is the epitome of "heavy-lifting" in New Testament exegesis. Not readable as a devotional work, but thorough treatment of the Greek text.
